One of the things I enjoy most about working in real estate isn’t just the homes, the negotiations, or even the closings—it’s the conversations. The meaningful, unscripted talks I get to have with people about where they are and where they’re going. These are the kinds of talks that make me think deeply. So today, I’m reflecting on something that’s always on my mind but often misunderstood: What is success?

If you’d like to share your own thoughts after reading, I’d love to hear them—conversation is how community is built. My inbox is always open.

🧭 Success: Not a Destination, But a Direction

You’ve probably heard it before—"Success is the key to a good life." or maybe, "Success means hitting your goals." And while that may be true for some, I believe success is something far less definable and far more personal.

To me, success is a practice. Not an event. It’s something you live into every day—not something you arrive at.

Sure, it’s easy to tie success to a number. A closed sale. A promotion. A square foot measurement. But none of those things, on their own, define a life well-lived. Especially in this business—where I serve clients from the wooded hills of Connecticut to the coastal edges of Massachusetts—I’ve seen what real success looks like. And it's rarely flashy.

Real success, I’ve found, looks like:

  • a family finding the right school district after months of uncertainty
  • a retiree downsizing without fear
  • a couple buying their first home, nervous but proud

These moments don’t make headlines, but they make meaning.

💡 The Quiet Kind of Success

There’s a quieter kind of success I’ve learned to value—the kind that doesn’t always get noticed, even by the person achieving it.

It’s getting back up after things don’t go as planned.
It’s learning how to be patient with yourself when progress feels slow.
It’s showing up fully, especially when it would be easier to coast.

Success isn’t constant. It changes with your seasons, your values, your goals.
The success I sought five years ago isn’t the same success I reach for today—and that’s the beauty of it.

🌱 What Success Feels Like in New England

Living and working in New England has taught me this too:
Success is local. It’s seasonal. It’s rooted.

There’s something about watching a family grow into their home through four seasons of Massachusetts weather. Or helping a client close on a house in Connecticut just in time to host Thanksgiving. There’s real success in those small, human moments—moments that remind me why I love this job and why I keep showing up with energy and care.

Success, to me, feels like trust.
Like showing up for my clients when the road gets bumpy.
Like watching someone breathe easier after a decision that felt too heavy to carry alone.

🏡 My Final Thought (For Now)

In this business, and in life, success isn’t always loud.

It might show up in a quiet sigh of relief when the keys are handed over.
In a smile from a neighbor who now feels like family.
In knowing that you helped someone not just move, but move forward.

So if you’re still figuring out what success looks like for you—good. That means you’re thinking, growing, and learning. Keep defining it for yourself. And don’t be afraid if your definition changes. That just means you’re still growing.

Thanks for reading. Let’s keep the conversation going.
